Dajti

Dajti sits above Tirana, Albania — reached in 15 minutes by the Dajti Express cable car. The launch is a small area with rocks and bushes, impossible to take off in nil-wind because trees end the run. The flying window is 10:30–16:00 in warm months (April–October) and 11:30–15:00 in cool ones (November–March). This is not a beginner site: the air is generally turbulent and active flying is required. Visiting pilots should meet the local pilots before their first flight — the place has real quirks.

Small takeoff area with rocks and bushes. Impossible to launch in nil wind (trees at the end of takeoff). Flyable 10:30–16:00 April–October, 11:30–15:00 November–March. Not for beginners — the site is tricky and generally turbulent; active flying required.

Getting there & local rules

Take the Dajti Express cable car one way. To reach it, from central Tirana (Skanderbeg Square) take the eastbound bus (towards Dajti mountain) to the Kinostudio stop, then a 5-minute taxi to the cable car station. 15-minute cabin ride up. Exit the top station and go left, then left again west to the ridge. There's a military base with antennas — take the path near it to reach launch. Landing (no-thermal conditions): near a cemetery NW of takeoff, ~13 min / 3 km away. The field is 200×50 m but sits on top of a small hill — expect turbulent sensations. Wind at landing usually differs from launch and is often stronger.

Local rules & hazards

Above the hills in front of the mountain, watch for helicopters that transit S↔N. Thermals can be very strong and turbulent. Above 700 m and out towards the LZ, the wind comes more from the north — a beginner wing may struggle to reach the field. At takeoff, wind shifting between N, NW and W is a bad sign.
