Caseppa

Caseppa is one of the very few flying opportunities in the Langhe hills near Turin — a small takeoff with little vertical, so it needs to be flown in the right conditions when a thermal is highly likely to trigger right in front of launch (which is often the case). Sometimes the Langhe hills open up excellent XC lines. As of April 2025 the site's status is unknown — nobody has used it for at least five years, so treat as an exploratory launch.

Launch & conditions

Nice smooth field, enough for one paraglider setup at a time. Only launch in the presence of a thermal wind coming from the front if you're going for a thermal XC. NOTE: as of April 2025 the status of this takeoff is unknown — pretty much nobody has used it for the last 5 years at minimum.

Getting there & local rules

Rather tricky. Get to the SP97/SP102 junction — it's on a saddle. Take the small gravel road that starts just in front of the church — walk it, or you need a serious off-road vehicle. Head up to the hilltop, cross to the neighbouring hill, and you should already see the takeoff from the road. Get closer, then look for a small footpath through the bushes and climb it (quite steep).

Local rules & hazards

The site is on the edge of Turin Caselle airport's CTR. Flying inside the CTR is illegal and can be dangerous — do NOT fly west from the takeoff area. The upper CTR starts at 1,500 ft (500 m) AGL — so do not fly above 1,000 m over the takeoff area. Landing near Bricco Musso is technical due to obstacles — not for beginners; highly recommended to inspect it on foot before flying.
