Vagamon is a hill-top resort in Kerala's Idukki district, southern India — famous for its cool climate (10–23 °C) and situated at about 1,100 m. The takeoff is at 'Suicide Point' with a drive-up access, and the flying face is a ridge about 10 km long, roughly 3,000 ft high. The surrounding countryside is tea estates, meadows and shola forests, with three named hills — Thangal, Murugan and Kurisumala — framing the area. Top-landing is the main option; bottom-landing is possible but retrieval is not easy.

Launch & conditions

Takeoff at 'Suicide Point'. Drive-up access. Ridge is about 10 km long and roughly 3,000 ft high.

Getting there & local rules

Nearest international airport is Kochi — a taxi to Vagamon costs a bit above 2,000 INR. Alternatively, train to Kottayam (Kerala), then an early-morning bus to Vagamon. Bus to Pala also works; local operators can shuttle you up from there. Landings: top-landing is the main option — easy with plenty of room clear of obstacles, but stay away from rotor-prone areas. Bottom-landing is possible but sites are few and the walk back up to launch is not straightforward.

Local rules & hazards

Stay clear of rotor-prone areas when top-landing. Bottom-landing has limited sites and difficult retrieval.

Check conditions before you fly

A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Vagamon – Main Ridge, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Vagamon – Main Ridge with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.

A day counts as flyable when the surface wind held in your range, from a direction the site flies, with no rain, for at least 2 hours in a row (08:00–20:00) — from hourly 10 m wind over the last 12 months. A seasonal wind guide only: it can't judge gusts, thermals or turbulence, and never replaces the live forecast, airspace checks and your own judgement.
