Where it is

Kodungallur (near the ancient city of Muziris in Kerala, south India) is a long, wide coconut-fringed beach site facing west 270° — ideal for PPG, with beautiful views over coconut plantations, canals, harbours and backwaters. The season runs October to the onset of the SW monsoon in late May. The wind rhythm across the day is textbook coastal India: easterly in the morning, swinging to SW by 11:00, W by noon, then NW after 2 pm, with speeds typically 5–15 km/h. You can fly about 30 km along the beach with plentiful emergency landings the whole way.

Launch & conditions

Large and long beachfront takeoff, 270° west-facing. Ideal for PPG. Motorable road right up to takeoff. Wind speeds 5–15 km/h through the day.

Getting there & local rules

Central Kerala, south India — 36 km from Kochi (Cochin), 35 km from the nearest airport (COK). Good roads to Kodungallur (Muziris) and the nearby Azikode-Munakkal beach. Landings: plentiful options along the whole beachfront; motorable road right up to landing.

Local rules & hazards

Maximum ceiling limited to 500 ft ASL because of helicopter services in the area. Notify the local police with proof of identity before flying. Except the SW monsoon (June–September), rarely any adverse weather. People and authorities are cooperative.

Check conditions before you fly

A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Kodungallur PG Site, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Kodungallur PG Site with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.

A day counts as flyable when the surface wind held in your range, from a direction the site flies, with no rain, for at least 2 hours in a row (08:00–20:00) — from hourly 10 m wind over the last 12 months. A seasonal wind guide only: it can't judge gusts, thermals or turbulence, and never replaces the live forecast, airspace checks and your own judgement.
