Organya

Organyà is a world-famous acro training site in the Catalan Pre-Pyrenees — sitting at the head of a valley that funnels the breeze straight into launch, giving hours of consistent soaring once the wind fills in. The takeoff area is large. The site's reputation for being easy to gain altitude on is precisely why acro pilots congregate here. On hot days thermals can go strong — take extra care in the mid-afternoon heat.

Getting there & local rules

Check the ENAIRE Insignia VFR portal for local airspace notifications and RMZ activation before every flight. Landings: can be turbulent, especially in the southern part near the trees and the river — prefer to land closer to the mountain and pilot actively to counter any collapses at low altitude.

Local rules & hazards

World-famous acro site — thermals can be really strong on hot days, take care in the hot afternoon hours. In strong conditions, do NOT go over the back of the mountain — the venturi accelerates the wind there, and the eastward ridges have the same effect. Rule of thumb: don't push north past the summit antennas unless you have plenty of altitude above them. When it's strong, stay well on the face — landing options aren't great if you can't get back.
