Balboa

Balboa is a versatile thermal and cross-country site in southern Colombia, launching from around 1,770 m in northeast, east or southeast wind, with landing roughly 1,200 m lower at about 560 m. Beyond thermalling and XC, it's also set up for ridge soaring, hike-and-fly and winch launching, and there's flat ground nearby too — a broad mix that suits different kinds of flying days. The site flies year-round, which is a genuine advantage over launches with a narrow seasonal window. Getting there means routing through the towns of Ipiales, Pasto and El Estrecho if coming from the south, or Cali, Popayán and El Estrecho from the north, before reaching Balboa itself. With a big vertical range, multiple flying disciplines and no closed season, Balboa is a site worth the drive for pilots exploring southern Colombia.
