Hoher Kasten

Hoher Kasten offers a few different takeoff options in the Alpstein range of eastern Switzerland, most commonly launching from the saddle; if the west wind picks up, pilots simply move further down the ridge for a more sheltered spot. There's also an east-facing takeoff, though it sees far less use than the main one. Access is by cable car from Brülisau. The same airspace restrictions that apply at nearby Ebenalp also apply here, so it's worth checking the current map at the cable car station before flying. Föhn conditions are the main weather hazard to watch for at this site — treat them with real caution. Landing is at a designated zone in Brülisau, close to both the cable car and parking, with separate landing areas set aside for hang gliders and paragliders.
