Miraflores

Miraflores is Lima's signature soaring site, a coastal cliff launch that lets pilots fly strikingly close to the city — right up to the Larcomar shopping center built into the cliff face, with the Marriott hotel's glass front reflecting wings back at them. It works on south, southwest and west wind and is popular with tandem operations, so the small grass launch circle gets busy. It isn't technically a hard site, but it sits in one of Lima's busiest tourist districts, so rules here are enforced strictly and pilots are expected to fly within their actual skill level — an incident reflects on every pilot and operator using the site. Landing is back up at the launch point when lift allows it, in a tight area that catches out less experienced pilots trying to get down quickly; landing on the beach below instead means staying well clear of the launch line, where the sand narrows and power lines and lamp posts crowd the approach.
