Idikel, in the Anti-Atlas near Tafraout in southern Morocco, is a desert-mountain launch reached via a good dirt road off the Agadir–Tafraout route. Before crossing the Fifilou pass — itself a good spot to check the wind conditions and offering an alternative launch for experienced pilots — turn left onto the dirt road and follow it about 2 km past the remains of a mining camp to a small saddle. Where the road turns left along the mountain flank, a flat open surface overlooks the SW valley; walk horizontally 200 m to the edge to find several cleaned small takeoff fields. It's usually an afternoon site with rocky terrain, no infrastructure, and a real dependency on stable conditions.

Launch & conditions

Several small cleaned takeoff fields on a flat area overlooking the SW valley, reached by a 200 m horizontal walk from the flat where the dirt road turns to follow the mountain flank. Typically an afternoon site.

Getting there & local rules

From the Agadir–Tafraout road, before crossing the Fifilou pass (good spot to check wind and consider the alternative launch), turn left onto a good dirt road and follow it about 2 km past the remains of a mining camp to a small saddle. Landings: safe LZ in the valley basin below (walk up across the gully to the right on a path to the village of Idikel, where a retrieve from the Tafraout–Agadir road is easy), or below Fifilou at the road before the high-voltage lines. Top-landing is possible but very tricky/risky with thermal gusts.

Local rules & hazards

Never fly in a north or east (Chergui) wind. Wait for thermal gusts to stop before launching — the terrain is rocky and there have been several incidents in recent years. No infrastructure on site — self-sufficient flying only.

Check conditions before you fly

A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Idikel (Idikl/ Tafraout), read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Idikel (Idikl/ Tafraout) with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.

A day counts as flyable when the surface wind held in your range, from a direction the site flies, with no rain, for at least 2 hours in a row (08:00–20:00) — from hourly 10 m wind over the last 12 months. A seasonal wind guide only: it can't judge gusts, thermals or turbulence, and never replaces the live forecast, airspace checks and your own judgement.
