Monte Avena (Feltre)

Monte Avena rises above Feltre in the Dolomites' southern foothills and is best known as the launch point for cross-country flights toward Belluno and back. There are two take-off options: the main launch is spacious with parking right behind it, while a second spot sits about 400 m further along the access road, a short walk from a small parking area — pilots should watch for model aircraft flying on its right side. Getting there means driving from Feltre through Pedavena toward Croce d'Aune, then turning off onto a road that turns to dirt for its final stretch before the top. Wind works here across a wide arc from east through west, and both soaring and thermic cross-country flying are common. Landing options include a field near Feltre and another in the Arten industrial zone, and a top landing at launch is straightforward in calm conditions. A modest annual local access fee applies and includes an information booklet on the site.
