Where it is
Triscombe is a rarely-flown light-wind thermal site on the Quantock Hills, west Somerset — not easy in less-than-perfect conditions. The takeoff is sheltered but the field around it is not: a quarry lies immediately behind and can suck you in if you get too close, and trees around the site produce rotor if you scratch low. Do not fly in strong winds. The site has been bought by a conservationist planning to plant more trees, so pilots are asked to keep a very low profile. HG rated Difficult; PG rated Tricky.

Getting there & local rules
From Bridgwater: leave Cannington on the A39 towards Minehead. Turn left opposite the Cottage Inn at Keenthorne. 1 mile on, at the crossroads, turn left towards Plainsfield. Take the next right signposted Triscombe Stone. The tarmac ends at a car park — go through the gate and along the track around the quarry (quarry on your right). Where the track drops steeply, turn left through the line of trees to takeoff. Line of trees runs downhill on the right of takeoff. DO NOT DRIVE TO TAKEOFF. From Taunton: with a PG it's quicker to park at the bottom and walk up.
Local rules & hazards
Do not land in the fields to the right of takeoff — you'll overfly horses and pheasant-rearing pens and be very unwelcome. The air can be rough (thermic). Do not underestimate the size of the quarry — do not get close, you may be sucked in. Trees around the site produce rotor. Site is sensitive — conservationist landowner is planting more trees, so keep a low profile.
