Where it is
Huergas de Babia is a north-facing site in León province, in the Cordillera Cantábrica of northern Spain — a ridge above the village of Huergas de Babia, with several possible launch spots along the face for slight NE or NW variations. Light north winds work here, and afternoon northerlies typically fill in daily, giving smooth dynamic soaring. There are plenty of landing fields around the village; the trick is to prefer the communal upland fields at the base of the ridge (no grazing) over the taller-grass private meadows.
Launch & conditions
North-facing takeoff, with several usable spots along the ridge for slight NE or NW variations. Roughly on the vertical of Huergas de Babia village.
Getting there & local rules
Three options up: 1) Huergas to Riolago de Babia, take a track south towards the mountains at the valley head, take the right-hand fork and climb to the end behind the ridge. 2) From Huergas, at the far end of the village take a track just after the river bridge on the right heading to a livestock farm; follow the flat past the small ridge and its repeater track. 3) A third variant of the same approach. From the A-66 motorway, take the Villablino exit and continue about 20 km to Huergas de Babia. Landings: plentiful fields around Huergas. Prefer the communal upland fields at the base of the ridge (unused by livestock) over the tall-grass private meadows — they sit close to a livestock shed at the foot of the ridge.
Local rules & hazards
Best in light north winds. Afternoon northerlies come in almost daily, giving smooth dynamic soaring. Prefer communal upland landings — respect private grazing fields, especially when the grass is tall.

Flyable days by month
A day counts as flyable when the surface wind held in your range, from a direction the site flies, with no rain, for at least 2 hours in a row (08:00–20:00) — from hourly 10 m wind over the last 12 months. A seasonal wind guide only: it can't judge gusts, thermals or turbulence, and never replaces the live forecast, airspace checks and your own judgement.
