Where it is

Soaring

Hodkovice is a steep 40 m training hill in northern Bohemia, used by paragliding schools for basic instruction and slope-soaring practice. Tall trees on both sides of the takeoff bracket the launch area; the site is suitable for soaring in the right wind. Do NOT drive to the takeoff — there is an airstrip immediately behind the hill.

Launch & conditions

Steep 40 m hill. Tall trees on both sides of takeoff. Used by PG schools for training. Suitable for soaring.

Getting there & local rules

By car: in Hodkovice nad Mohelkou take the roundabout towards Petrašovice / Bílá, then after about 700 m take the second left (first turn goes to the airstrip) towards Kohoutovice. After about 500 m the ridge edge is visible on the left. Park below by the roadside — do NOT drive directly to the launch (airstrip on the other side). Landing: right under the takeoff, spacious sloping meadow. Do NOT land in the field slightly further away in growing season — the farmer, who lives opposite, does not like it.

Local rules & hazards

Airstrip immediately behind the hill — do NOT fly beyond the edge (possibility of active aircraft airspace). Respect the farmer opposite: no landing in cultivated fields in growing season.

Check conditions before you fly

A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Hodkovice, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Hodkovice with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.

A day counts as flyable when the surface wind held in your range, from a direction the site flies, with no rain, for at least 2 hours in a row (08:00–20:00) — from hourly 10 m wind over the last 12 months. A seasonal wind guide only: it can't judge gusts, thermals or turbulence, and never replaces the live forecast, airspace checks and your own judgement.
