Where it is
Feuerkogel above Ebensee in Austria's Salzkammergut is a gondola-served mountain with multiple launches for different wind directions. The classic north launch is a 10-minute walk behind the hut village; an east launch sits next to the old chairlift terminus (another 10 min). For a safer, more forgiving option there's the 'Buchegger' route from the Alpenvereinshütte, which loses about 500 m of altitude on the way in (~17 min walking). The hang-glider ramp faces north, 5 min towards Hüttendorf. Do NOT fly Feuerkogel in a west wind.
Launch & conditions
HG ramp: 5 min path towards Hüttendorf (ramp faces north). PG launches: NORTH — 10 min walk behind the hut village to the north. EAST — 10 min walk to the old chairlift terminus (launch right next to it) or ~13 min to the Alpenvereinshütte (starts ~200 m higher east). SAFEST option — via the Buchegger curve, following the downhill run into the valley before the chairlift entry point (~17 min walk, ~500 m altitude loss).
Getting there & local rules
Reach the top by the Feuerkogel gondola. Landing: opposite the valley (Rindbach).
Local rules & hazards
CAUTION: if the prevailing wind is west, Feuerkogel should be AVOIDED as a flying mountain.
Check conditions before you fly
A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Feuerkogel, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Feuerkogel with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.

Flyable days by month
A day counts as flyable when the surface wind held in your range, from a direction the site flies, with no rain, for at least 2 hours in a row (08:00–20:00) — from hourly 10 m wind over the last 12 months. A seasonal wind guide only: it can't judge gusts, thermals or turbulence, and never replaces the live forecast, airspace checks and your own judgement.
